LEVEL 2 NCEA CANTERBURY REGIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL

Not quite finished your Level 2 NCEA Certificate? Get over the line now…. For free!

A Level 2 NCEA Certificate is an important qualification to help you achieve your plans for this year, for your career or for further learning. Kick start your 2016 year with your Level 2 Certificate completed!

What is Summer School? If you need 8 credits or less to complete your Level 2 NCEA Certificate, Summer School is for you. If you’ve left school and are working, here’s the chance to complete what you need at a time that doesn’t cut across your work commitments. If you’re returning to school in 2016, Summer School is a great way to finish Level 2 NCEA and gain some extra free tuition.

The right pathway for you: There are some interesting pathways for you to achieve the credits you need for your Level 2 Certificate. You could complete standards in subjects you’ve studied before, or in new areas like Tourism or Hospitality. If you’re talented in sport or music, we have standards that suit you too.

When? Summer School runs from 18th January 2016.

Where? It’s based in the centre of town at Hagley College, 510 Hagley Avenue, Christchurch.

How much? Level 2 NCEA Summer School is FREE.

Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Canterbury E-Week

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Canterbury.

To be eligible to apply for E-Week, students must be enrolled in Year 12 or Year 13 at a NZ high school in 2016 and have taken courses to date consistent with entry into our Bachelor of Engineering with Honours degree (specifically Physics and Calculus).  Successful applicants will take part in a number of activities related to electronics, robotics, nanotechnology and electric power engineering.  Our purpose in running E-Week is to publicise the breadth of opportunities available to those who study electrical engineering.  The number of students who study in the area of electrical engineering has dropped in recent years, despite very strong employment opportunities for graduates from the professional engineering programmes at Universities of Canterbury and Auckland.

E-Week is free of cost for successful applicants.  They will be accommodated in one of the halls of residence on campus and all food is supplied.  The only cost to the students and their families will be for the travel to Christchurch for those who live elsewhere.  We will transfer attendees from/to their point of arrival/departure.

This event will be held over the high school term break in April 2016.  The event is later in the year because of a major refurbishment of our laboratories which is to be completed over the summer.

More information, application forms and photos from previous years events is available they need is available at www.elec.canterbury.ac.nz/eweek.

Blue Light Life Skills camp

Blue Light runs Life Skills camps in conjunction with the NZ Defence Force at Burnham military camp for youth aged 14-17 years old. This has been run for over ten years with over 5,000 young people attending these camps throughout New Zealand.

The young people who attend these camps learn about team work, discipline, leadership skills, life skills, perseverance and resiliency.

The young people attending also have the opportunity to earn up to twelve NCEA credits.

These camps are also very suitable for young people who are interested in joining the services i.e  the NZ Police, Army, Navy and Airforce as a possible career pathway.

We have two camps left this year at Burnham.  The dates for these are 17th-21st August and 28th September – 2nd October.  The second date is during the school holidays so a great opportunity for any of your pupils who would not be able to attend during the school term dates.

See Mr Webster in the Careers Office for an application form or for more info.

Interested in joining the Army, Navy or Air Force?
