Coming on the back of the free fees announcement by the Government, the new Lincoln University Māori and Pasifika Accommodation Scholarship offers up to 20 students $5000 towards their on-campus accommodation costs.

You need to be eligible to study at Lincoln, and to show how you have made a commitment to Māori and Pasifika leadership and advancement in your school or extended community.

Four FULL scholarships available for Year 12 all-rounders to finish high school overseas

UWC (United World Colleges) is a group of 17 schools around the world which aim to make education a force to unite peoples, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. Students are selected by national committees around the world and attend, most on scholarship, for the last two years of secondary school, following the International Baccalaureate curriculum and as well as a rich and diverse extra-curricular programme, including project weeks spent on service projects in the region.

Prominent UWC international alumni include King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, Julie Payette (Governor General of Canada, former astronaut), Anne Enright (Mann Booker Prize winner) and Jorma Ollila (former chairman and CEO of Nokia Corporation); and from New Zealand: former MP David Cunliffe, actress Miriama McDowell, journalist Cate Brett, lawyer Annette Sykes, and Google entrepreneur Victoria Ransom.

This year UWC New Zealand has six scholarships available. Up to four of these, to Germany, the USA, Japan and Swaziland, can be full scholarships if family circumstances warrant it. there are also two part-scholarships available to UWCs in India and in Armenia. Full scholarships include all academic and boarding fees, airfares and pocket money, ensuring applicants are selected on merit rather than ability to contribute. Family contributions are generally assessed based on what it would have cost the family to have their child at home instead, less if the family is financially stretched due to low income, and only more if the family is comfortably able to contribute more. The availability of full scholarships means UWCNZ can select on merit alone rather than ability to contribute, and makes the option available to students for whom other overseas study opportunities are inaccessible.

As the scholarships have not been well-advertised in some regions, we have extended our deadline for applications for 2018-entry scholarships to 5pm, 23 February 2018.

Applicants must be New Zealand citizens ordinarily resident in New Zealand, who will be aged 16 or 17 on 1 September 2018, and who have completed NCEA Level 1 or equivalent. We will also accept applications from students currently in Year 11 if NCEA Level 1 in Mathematics and one other subject were endorsed with excellence in 2017.

Applicants should be academically strong, physically active and involved in their school or local community.

The 2017 Kelliher Economics Foundation Scholarship

07 August 2017

Dear Sir/Madam

The 2017 Kelliher Economics Foundation Scholarship

We would like to draw your attention to the Economics scholarships we offer to students who have an aptitude in Economics and who wish to pursue tertiary studies in this subject.

The Kelliher Economics Foundation was set up by the late Sir Henry J Kelliher in 1965 to advance knowledge of Economics to the wider community.  Today the Foundation continues to offer financial support to students wishing to study Economics at a New Zealand tertiary institute.

The Scholarship covers a period of up to three years, with the annual value of each scholarship being the full tuition fees cost per annum, being paid directly to the tertiary institution.  In order for students to maintain their grant they must include economics in their study programme each semester/trimester and achieve satisfactory academic results across all papers.

We are now accepting applications for the Kelliher Economics Foundation Awards for 2017 and would encourage you to promote this scholarship to worthy students.  If you have students you view as ideal candidates, please access an application form at   If further information is required, please contact me on 09 373 5727 or email

The closing date for applications is Tuesday, 12 September 2017.

Applicants will be notified of the judges’ decision by the end of October 2017, with finalist’s ratification in January 2018, once external Year 13 academic results are received.

We hope this provides a welcome opportunity for some of your students and appreciate your support in providing the scholarship details to them.

Yours sincerely

Rosemary Winder

The closing date for this scholarship, and many others, is 15 August. If you know anyone that is interested in the Bachelor of Product Design, please let them know we are encouraging anyone interested in a Bachelor of Product Design to apply.
