In 2012, technology industry association NZTech began a Tech Innovation Week to coincide with the Hi-Tech Awards in order to build enthusiasm around new technologies being developed in New Zealand.
The intention behind Techweek is simple – New Zealand’s technology and innovation sectors are growing rapidly, and Techweek fosters that growth by providing the national ecosystem with a week-long opportunity for connection and cross-pollination, and an independent platform through which to amplify New Zealand’s unique and inspiring innovation stories to the world.

The tech sector is New Zealand’s fastest growing industry and offers a great range of exciting, well paid jobs! This free event is a great opportunity for young people years 9-13 and their parents to come along, hear about the range of opportunities across the sector & how a career in tech could earn good money, travel the world and make a real difference to the world. Opportunities are as varied as they come – from marketing to coding, from agri-tech and health-tech to space and gaming.
Doors will open at 1730 so you have time to visit booths run by local companies and educators before the presentations begin at 1830 in the Main Auditorium.
There will be presentations by a diverse range of people working in the tech industry. They will talk about their day-to-day work, some of the exciting things they have done and how they got started in their careers.
Throughout the event local tech companies will be running booths where you can find out what they do and the skills you would need to work with them. To assist in choosing the right subjects whist at school and learn about opportunities for further education local tertiary providers will be on hand.
Following the presentations, a light supper will be served in the Green Room and you will be able to talk with the presenters and visit any booths you have missed.
