NZDF – Reserves (part time)

Army Reserve – Part Time Opportunities

The purpose of the New Zealand Army Reserve Force, (ResF), formerly known as the Territorial Force, is to support the Regular Force on operations. It has played a significant role in shaping the character of many New Zealand citizens over its very proud 175 year history. Service fosters within soldiers a sense of citizenship and belonging, with a strong emphasis on personal growth and the development of a social conscience.

In Christchurch, we are actively seeking more ResF soldiers for the Infantry and Logistics regiments, as well as the Medical corps. Training programmes for each unit vary but ResF soldiers typically train one night a week and several weekends per year. The type of training ResF soldiers receive is as professional and varied as the roles they are sometimes asked to fulfil. Local soldiers have served internationally on peacekeeping operations, as well as locally on Civil Defence and Emergency Management operations –notably in recent support to the Managed Isolation and Quarantine Facilities. A ResF soldier completes a minimum of 20 days’ training per year although many soldiers enjoy the challenge the Service offers and choose to train more.

For students’ considering tertiary study or employment when leaving school, opportunities exist for them to become actively involved in the NZDF. This involvement can begin in their first summer out of school.
