ANNUAL APPEAL COLLECTOR: Aviva’s Annual Street Appeal will take place on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 May 2021.  Sites will be outside supermarkets, at Malls and on the streets.  Join a team of over 120 people across the sites for a two hour shift which will make a difference to this organisation which supports people within our community to live violence free lives.  This role is listed under the category ‘public contact’ on the Volunteering Canterbury database,

Casual staff wanted!

A local cafe and event venue are currently currently employing on call casual positions comprising of the following tasks:

Event and venue set up  – moving of furniture, chairs and tables in side and outside the house  – this might be a Friday after school for a couple of hours or a Saturday from 1pm for longer hours
Kitchen hand – washing dishes, some laundry, cleaning and tidying of the back of house area when events are on. This could be for a few hours after school on a Friday or a Saturday or a Sunday
There is no need for any related work experience but they are looking for honest trustworthy people, with a good positive hard working attitude who works well in a team.
This is an on call role and you would be emailed in advance of a shift for availability, so they are looking for 2 or 3 people to have on their roster to call on.

Hours and workdays are flexible, and we can work with you regarding your study and exams.

Volunteering Opportunity – ‘Culture Galore’

Saturday 20 February

Be part of the Volunteering Canterbury team which will be at this year’s ‘Culture Galore’, a great community event which will be held at Ray Blank Park from midday to 4pm on Saturday 20 February. Looking for four or five people to help with set up from around 11am and then assist with the ‘stone painting’ activity for the youngsters, and then ‘pack down’.   We will be in a marquee with the activity taking place on a tarpaulin on the ground.  It will get messy!  There will be a chance to have a look at the other displays happening around the Park.  Email Glenda at if you are interested!

Part-time/Casual Kitchen hands


A local Cafe and event venue are currently looking for kitchen hands on a part-time casual basis Monday – Sunday. Day and evening shifts are available.

Duties will include:

  • Dishwashing
  • Polishing glasses and cutlery
  • Moving furniture
  • Other duties as required

Must be available to work Xmas and NY (Shop closed Xmas Day) and be available through all of January on rostered days. Shop is open for 13 weeks.

Applications are invited from students age 15 and above.

To be successful in this role you must have;

  • A polite, friendly and outgoing nature
  • Motivation to work and earn
  • reliable and keen to learn lots of new skills.
  • quick learner, good at maths – must count back change to customers
  • Tidy and presentable.
  • An interest in serving customers and would feel confident in chatting and talking to customers.
  • Any coffee making skills a bonus.
  • Must be available to work Xmas and NY (we are closed Xmas Day) and be available through all of January on rostered days.
  • **Please do not apply if you are heading away for New Year or in January. Days off will be rostered that you can work around** – Must be available to work both weekend afternoons.
